Turmoil, as usual, plagues the middle east. Isis had been recently pushed out of Raqqa in Syria. This was considered ISIS’ stronghold. This is another huge win because ISIS is trying to make their own state but they don’t have the territory, money, or enforcement to do it therefore they are falling. Though ISIS was driven out, rebuilding the city will take years. There is no real funding to be able to rebuild the city so things like the refugee crisis will still be a huge problem in Europe even if ISIS gets completely eradicated from Syria. Unless money is poured into rebuilding many of the same types of problems can reoccur. This has happened for years in the middle east where there is constant war as a treatment of symptoms but no good solutions to fix the actual problems. The ethnic and religious tensions make it more difficult to have countries that want to work together or even work within themselves. An example would be the Kurds in Iraq which are trying to gain independence or Muslims in Palestine. Many of the economies of these countries are not booming either which brings out the tensions as groups of people try and play the blame game.
It is an almost similar situation to what happened during the world wars. After WW1 Germany was in huge debt and had almost no where to go allowing power to be taken easily by Adolf Hitler. Then WW2 happened and Germany was again destroyed with the European countries finally agreeing not to kill each other. Then tons of money was pumped into rebuilding Germany allowing it to be the prosperous state that it is today. Until the various power groups in the middle east stop using killing as a solution to their problems and try and put money together to rebuild the war torn areas it won’t get fixed. It will just keep making power vacuums which get filled by groups that are just as bad and starts the cycle all over again.
ISIS is slowly but surely being kicked from the middle east but this may just leave a spot for a new organization to come in. Until these countries get a “slap in the face” and try and stabilize things it is almost impossible to fix their issues. The problem is their issues can be fixed when things are unstable and it is hard to stabilized things with so many religious and ethnic issues along borders and even within countries. And a large part of it is so much anti western rhetoric in the region prevents western countries (which have the money and power) to help. The countries in that region though can’t seem to help their own peoples so millions are suffering with no way to stop it by either side. That is why it is a problem which may not be solved for many decades. Since the middle east was divided on arbitrary lines and not naturally formed ones it has caused huge tensions within the region that can’t seem to be stopped.
