On Sunday, a group stormed a hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia after setting off a suicide car bomb at the entrance. The group of five, entered the building dressed as military officers and began shooting. Of the 23 dead, there was a mother and her three children. The thought of that disgusts me. How can someone just go into a building and shoot people. Especially children? The African terrorist group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for this act. This attack comes only two weeks after a massive car bomb killed nearly 350 people on a busy Mogadishu street. Al-Shabaab has been dressing up as military officers lately during these attacks, making it difficult to know if they are affiliated with the group or not. Somalia’s president, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, has been visiting other countries in the region in hopes for more support in fighting against the terrorist group, vowing a “state of war”. Security forces at the scene of the attack killed three of the attackers and arrested two alive. The terrorist group is growing stronger and spreading deeper into Africa; I think that people should always keep an eye on what’s going on around them because from what it seems and looks like, safety is only an idea.
