In northwest Syria tensions have been increasing. However, a temporary solution has been put into place. Vladimir Putin and Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan the two countries agreed to create a demilitarised zone 15-20km into opposition-control territories along the de-facto front line by October 15. THis includes withdrawing all fighters, guns, tanks rockets, and other weapons. The two rulers also agreed to open up highways that link Latakia and Damascus to Aleppo. This truce however is only temporary and it isn’t an ideal way of going about things but it’s better than the more extreme options which is uses of force and violence. The main benefactor from all this is Turkey but Russia also benefits because they would rather avoid a war with turkey.

When I read this article I was under the impression that tensions between the two countries were only starting to flare. I did not realize that the two countries were getting very close to having a potential war. It turns out the two countries have been taking actions such as deploying troops and heavy weapons. I also didn’t know why the countries were going at it and why Russia was involved syria. It turns out after looking into the article that Russian wants the province of Idlib. This has caused a rift between the two countries.

I believe that having this temporary truce is good place to start for the two countries. It gives them time to work out a possible agreement and avoid a potential war.  The agreement isn’t final though. The agreement needs to be implemented and in my opinion it would be better if it was done quickly before something occurs that could set off a dispute in either country. It’s very clear that both countries want to avoid a war and stay away from any sort of chemical warfare.
