Analysis of: Can Iran survive sanctions?: BBC

Under Trump, the United States has decided to impose sanctions on Iran, mainly towards the oil industry. A few years ago, under Obama the United States agreed to keep a close eye on Iran, specifically on their nuclear situation, in exchange for a cease of many sanctions by the United States towards Iran.

Now that Trump has reinforced sanctions on Iran our gas prices have gone up and we must get oil from other places. I think this was a dumb move by our president. Not only have gas prices gone up, but he is allowing other major countries to continue trading with Iran, which mean their economies are remaining fairly the same and their gas prices have remained the same. Not to mention this strengthens the bond between Iran and the eight other countries that are still trading with them. Trump is more or less giving countries a common enemy and that is the last thing we need. China, South Korea, and India have all claimed in the past that they would discontinue trade of Iranian oil, yet they have somewhat snuck around that statement, or they have simply received a thumbs up by Trump that is okay to continue doing so.

There is also a punishment to expected by industries in the United States who break this sanction rule, which I think is an abuse of power. Trump and his administrators are threatening to exclude these industries from the American financial system, which I think is just ridiculous. These threats are not just aimed at oil companies, but also banks and port operators.

In all I just think this situation is ridiculous. We already have started getting a bad reputation from foreign countries once Trump stepped into office (excluding Russia) and I do not think this is helping. The saddest part is that a lot of Americans do not even realize this is hurting them too. A lot of pro Trump people think that he is just putting America first and acting as a strong nation, when in reality it is raising gas prices and inflicting conflict between not just America and Iran, but also America and it’s own people.
