Tensions in the Middle East are intensifying on their own, what with everything happening in Sudan, the situation between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and so on. But if you ask me, the United States deciding to insert themselves into places where they may not belong only makes things worse, or vice versa, in the case of Syria. One of my articles covers Mike Pompeo’s address in Cairo about U.S involvement in the Middle East and odd sideways threats to the Iranian government. In my opinion, everything that the President has done in the Middle East has only made things worse, like pulling troops out of Syria and backing out of the Iran nuclear deal, as well as intensifying tensions with Saudi Arabia. Even his closeness with Russian leader Vladimir Putin can lead to adverse effects on the Middle East.

That being said, the U.S. has withdrawn aid for the crisis in Yemen, where thousands of people, including children, are dying from starvation due to a civil war in its fourth year. Why we pulled out of Yemen and Syria is confusing to me, since we seem to be getting into petty conflicts that may have adverse effects on the state of the Middle East as a whole and could mean that more American troops will have to be sent to the area to deal with conflicts that could have been avoided. Mike Pompeo’s address was weird, honestly, and unprofessional. The job of the United States is not to threaten everyone into submission, but to work together with problematic states until a resolution is found. If the problematic state refuses to compromise or discuss the issue, then military intervention would make sense, but I think that immediate military action and macho threats are not the right way to solve problems.
