For my analysis post, i read about Saudi Arabian women and a new law created to try to provide more freedom for them. This new law in Saudi Arabia, put in place on Sunday, stated that women will be notified when they are being divorced by receiving a text message. This is seen as a way to end secret divorces and make sure women are aware of their marital status. Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, has begun giving women in Saudi Arabia more rights, this started last year after he lifted a ban on women being able to drive. Women can check their marital status on a website or visit court to get a copy of divorce papers. In most Arab countries, men are allowed to just divorce women, but at least after having this law put in place, they’ll know that they’re being divorced. Social media has helped women in Saudi Arabia, by protesting and encouraging the need for more freedom. This is a big problem because due to the lack of freedom women have in Saudi Arabia, women need permission to work, travel, marry, and get medical treatment from a male relative. I think this is just such an outrage. Living in the United States, it becomes unrecognized how lucky and free each and every citizen is. Although some believe women still don’t have as much freedom as men, women are able to live their lives and not have to worry about half of the things women in other countries have to face. After reading this article and knowing the reality and truth about this world and freedoms, i realize how much freedom americans have, and how much we take for granted the rights and freedoms we are given.
