More than 8 million Israeli citizens have been given at least a single shot of the Pfizer Corona Virus. It takes two doses to be fully vaccinated. So the real number of fully vaccinated people is just over 3 million. Maccabi Health Services also announced that they have reached their goal of vaccinating 74% of its members age 16 and older. Even though millions of people are becoming immune to the virus, the Israeli’s Health Administration is still calling for people to have diligence, reminding everyone that ” they still have a lot of work to do.”
This is a fantastic thing. Each time another person becomes vaccinated, the world takes another step toward the idea of herd immunity. So when millions of people are becoming immune to the virus, its a huge step forward in the strive to return to normalcy. I think that going forward we will start to see many more countries gain numbers similar to Israelis’ if not bigger, furthermore taking even more steps towards herd immunity. It makes me extremely happy that after all of this time there diligence and care that people have been taking is finally paying off now that there is a proven vaccine out.
In class we discussed the idea that countries most fit for survival will thrive and those who don’t wont. ( much like Darwinism.) I believe that this article describes that. Israel, being a largely democratic state is equipped with the necessary tools to combat the virus because they can adapt ( are fit for survival) but other countries with more ridged governments might not have the same success with dealing with the virus.
