The United States continues to make international news as the Biden administration makes multiple questionable decisions on the global stage. In this instance, the United States have not placed any sanctions on the Saudi prince despite his direct involvement in the operation of the murder of Khashoggi. Khashoggi was a columnist for The Washington Post that was assassinated in October of 2018. A U.N. expert comments on the “dangerous” decision by the U.S. to avoid any direct sanctions on the crown prince’s assets or engagements despite having evidence of his approval of a capture or murder of Khashoggi. I think that this is yet another example of what we will see from the Biden administration in regards to foreign policy and relations with allied nations. It is pretty disappointing to see the American legacy of caring more about money and interests than ethics but it is not very surprising. I think in this case it is good that the U.N has decided to directly call out the U.S. on this dubious decision. The U.N. expert specifically questioned the decision to release information about the prince’s guilt while simultaneously expressing their lack of plan to punish him in the least. As far as international relations, I think that this along with the Syrian bombing is a direct demonstration of continued questionable Liberal Hegemony with the United States making unethical and sometimes ineffective decisions all in the name of keeping control and power in specific interest areas. The United States continues to act in their sole interest which is not wholly surprising but with a change in leadership many expected at least some shift. Biden has been in the news a lot recently for his decisions in regards to foreign policy, many of those leaving the U.N. and other nations confused and upset.
