The UN rights experts have warned that violence, including assaults and property destruction, by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians in the occupied west bank has been on the rise in recent months. In a statement told on Wednesday, UN experts from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) documented 771 incidents on settler violence causing injury to 133 Palestinians and damaging 9,646 trees and 184 vehicles mostly in the areas of Hebron, Jerusalem, Nables, and Ramallah. The UN human rights experts have called on the Israeli military and police to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the violent acts. Violence has been mainly motivated by ideology and intended to “intimidate and terrorize Palestinians” and stop them from accessing their land. Israeli settlers are mainly targeting the livelihoods of rural Palestinians, vandalising livestock, agricultural lands, and homes. Nearly 500,000 Israeli settlers live in more than 200 settlements and dozens of unauthorized outposts scattered across the Palestinian territories.

It is clear that the UN finds this issue happening in the middle east as something to be taken care of seriously and is on their list because of their comments and numbers on the situation. The UN works on keeping peace between countries and lands and since there has been a rise in attacks in the occupied west bank, that could lead to more and more higher tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.

This issue happening in the middle east can be seen as an attempt to take over areas of occupied land for one’s advantage. By the Israelis attacking the Palestinians by ruining and attacking their properties, it can cause tensions to rise between the people.
