After 11 days of fighting in which 232 Palestinians in Gaza and 12 people in Israel were killed, Israel and Hamas have announced a ceasefire. Israel’s security cabinet started on Thursday that it voted unanimously in favor of a “mutual and unconditional” Gaza truce but added that the hour of implementation had yet to be agreed upon. The group that rules Gaza, Hamas, and the armed group called the Palestinian Islamic Jihad confirmed for the ceasefire and said that it would start at 2am on Friday. This development came after a growing global alarm about the bloodshed happening, with the US President Joe Biden urging the Israeli Prime Minister to attempt to de-escalate the situation. Health officials in Gaza said that 232 Palestinians were killed and more than 1,900 were wounded since the violence began on May 10th. The planned truce would bring an end to some of the fiercest fighting since 2014, which had caused widespread destruction in Gaza and halted much of daily life in Israel.
It was clear to many countries that the violence caused in Gaza and Israel was something out of control and that needed to be halted as soon as possible. Hundreds were killed and thousands were killed and daily life had come to a pause during this violence happening. The truce between both sides will hopefully stop all further violence for the time is calls for.
The situation happening in Israel is related to two ethnicities and religions coming into clashes with each other. Endless territorial wars have been fought in Israel because of religious ties to the region and their religion because of events.
