The UAE and Turkey are currently attempting to revive their relationship with each other. The two counties have been off and on with their relationships but there hasn’t been a true relationship that has formed. Many believe that the talks to improve relations with being the start of a new era and new alliance. However, they both have their differences when it comes to political views. They have taken opposite sides dealing with the Libyan case and other smaller conflicts. The meeting was held a few days ago to discuss regional conflicts. This first meeting is deemed to be the first of many between the UAE and Turkey.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed middle eastern countries scrambling to make new relationships and heal old ones. Most European, Asian, and American countries have monitored the situation, but only a few have enacted it. France being one. There are middle eastern countries that have a strong relationship with the U.S. discussing with rival countries of the U.S. Time will tell of who the United States’ real allies are. The UAE especially has been active in starting fresh relationships. It is an interesting tactic since they aren’t threatened by any country at the moment and are in a good situation.
The fear of the U.S. is that the relationship between UAE and Turkey will turn into a reciprocal relationship, meaning they both do favors for each other. Turkey has a dominant military presence while the UAE is rich with money to fund them. The U.S. currently does not have a relationship with Turkey but does have a military connection with them. it is doubtful that Turkey would turn against the U.S. as the U.S. hasn’t had many dealing with Turkey. The relationship between UAE and Turkey could affect the way the middle east turns out as relationships are ending and starting in that area.
