The government being able to watch innocent citizens without consent has been a topic of discussion for some time. Recently, in Israel, the parliament of Israel is investigating a matter of controversy that involves the police possessing a hacking tool called Pegasus. This Pegasus spyware was made by Israel’s NSO group, which, since twenty thirteen, has been on the United States blacklist. The Calcalist Financial Daily have said that the police have used it against targets, and anti government protesters, without the required warrants at times. The police chief denied these reports that they had used them against “Black flag” protesters. However, the NSO said it could not confirm or deny current or potential customers for Pegasus.

This article is important because it shows how governmental forces can indeed have the power of doing things that people have thought all along. Some people today still put covers over their computer cameras just because they are paranoid that someone may be watching them. Whether you are innocent or may be a problem causer, it would not matter. The government is trying to take every precaution possible when trying to prevent bad things that may happen and sometimes that means shady stuff can go down in the process.

This relates to what we talk about in class through the talk of governmental power within the people. Sometimes the government can have too much power over its citizens and this can cause controversy. Not only is this instance too much power, it is power they are not even supposed to have. The government is supposed to have warrants for anyone they use that spyware on, regardless of their motive. However, sometimes they skip this step and take it upon themselves to do things they should not be doing, and making the economy uncomfortable in the process.
