In Damascus Syria, a bomb went off on a bus Tuesday the 15th that was carrying syrian troops. One soldier died and 11 wounded. “The blast happened during rush hour at a customs roundabout near the capital’s landmark Umayyad Square, according to the report.” There is no further information on who was responsible for this attack nor any further information on this event. There have been multiple attacks in Damascus in recent months amid “ an otherwise calm period in the capital.”
Why should we be concerned? In Damascus there has been various bombings that have killed many in most recent years. In October, there was two bombs attached to a bus carrying Syrian troops which exploded in Damascus killing 14. At the time a group called Qasioun Bridges claimed responsibility for the attack. One of the most deadliest attacks occurred in 2017, where a judicial office building and restaurant was hit by suicide bombers. This killed nearly 60 people. The attacks were claimed by Islamic State group militias. There has been little evidence of the government trying to prevent these attacks happening. It is however extremely alarming on how this particular attack there has been no response on terrorist group claiming the unfortunate events. It is extremely unusual to see that occur. I believe that in order to help prevent these attacks from occurring that the Syrian government should have more protection on who has access to towards how the troops get transported. I think it would be best for them to detect if there are any bombs before any troops getting on the bus.
When discussing about Syria it falls in the domestic/ state level of the levels of analysis. There are bombings that are occuring more recently in there country killing people, destroying the infrastructure surrounding where these attacks are taken place. In addition, this also relates to the individual lives of the soldiers and civilians dieng, but also the president. The actions of Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad are still unaware of his response on how to prevent these attacks.
