The EU has started to turn away from Russian fossil fuels as part of their transition to green energy. The plan to transition means heavier reliance on Morocco and the Western Sahara for imports. Since the Ukrainian invasion, the EU has slashed Russian gas imports by 2/3. Europe also plans to stop using all Russian oil and gas by 2030. The Eu plans to turn to renewable energy sourced in Morocco and the Western Sahara, the main energy source being hydrogen from hydrogen plants in North Africa.
This change in energy dependence is major for the many parties involved. Russia would lose its main customer for oil and natural gas, which would seriously destroy its economy later down the line. As for Europe and North Africa, they would have to strengthen relations more and be able to find and utilize cleaner energy. Morocco and the rest of North Africa would become a much bigger global actor because of their energy production and exports.
This relates to the topic of global and mutual interest. Europe no longer has an interest in Russian oil and gas and wants out of dealing with them, and are looking for an alternate option in a different country. Northern Africa, specifically Morocco, is the alternate option. They provide energy to Europe, and in return Morocco growns an economic partner. Russia loses out and faces consequences for their Ukraine invasion.
