In Northern Syria Al-Hol camp, caught in the fighting between Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in charge of the site and ISIL (ISIS) cells, and unfortunately three people died including a child. In the clashes, an ISIS member reportedly was killed. “Reliable sources reported that Al-Hawl [Al-Hol] camp in the far south-east countryside of Al-Hasakah province has been witnessing ongoing tension.” Due to this, ten more got wounded. According to a few news sources the attack lasted a few hours.

Why should we be concerned? Well they used Kalashnikovs, pistols, and rocket-propelled grenades, which can be extremely damaging weapons. “It has been three years since a United States-led coalition captured the last sliver of territory held by ISIL, ending their self-declared caliphate that covered large parts of Iraq and Syria.” This is a key piece of information because it has been several years since the U.S -allied Kurdish authorities in control of the country’s east and northeast areas, with a small presence of several hundred American forces still deployed there. Due to the lack of the U.S presence, the country’s security has rapidly declined. According the United Nations, around 56,000 people live in a SDF-u camp for displaced people that has been plagued by murders and regular escape attempts. Taking this information in, I believe that there needs to be more security and focus on making these camps a better environment with high security. They need to show their country is unified.

This relates back to class because the article goes into the United nations. The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization whose purpose is to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation, and be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations. This also relates back to class on an individual and state level. The individuals are the people in the camps and the state level of Syria.
