From the start of the industrial revolution to the groundbreaking feats of globalization, the effects of climate change only increase every day. In the Middle East, specifically Palestine and Israel, climate change has hit their lands especially hard, as the temperature appears to rise 4 degrees celsius more than in any part of the world. Solutions to this issue in the West have been met with more lies and half-made measures to please citizens in their worries on global health, but in Palestine, Israel uses this conflict to make their advances on Palestinian land and resources.

With global warming at an all time high, western nations have shown their hypocrisy by speaking of peace but permitting apartheid in Palestine and CO2 highs. While no country will outright declare their support for Palestine, they speak of peace and climate talks but permit apartheid in Palestine and reach CO2 highs, demonstrating the failing efficacy of federal governments to solve global problems. This continuous trend of false promises is bound to reach a limit where something drastic must change for the world to continue to live, as freshwater shortages and food droughts are things that could alter our living conditions greatly. Even today, foolish decisions are being made about the future of climate change: the president of the climate conference in UAE will be the head of an oil company. On another note, it may seem heroic for Israel to want Palestinian land or environmental improvements, but it’s merely an excuse to finally occupy their land and overtake their resources and people. Like all things, every global issue can now be used as a political weapon, and this “green colonialism” is yet another form of imperialism to legitimize invasions instead of tackling the issue at its root cause.

There are two key parts of this article that relate back to class. Many environmental organizations, likely including ENGO’s, declare their support for Palestine to further not only the sovereignty of Palestine, but to bring attention to the climate/environmental pressures put there. Furthermore, we’ve spoken about pragmatist human nature. This relates to climate change because many argue that doing any quick long-term beneficial actions are simply not realistic in today’s society. This is related to the world’s reliance on global trade, fossil fuels, and factories to function.
