The article details the current human rights violations in Israeli prisons. Israeli prison guards have started beating palestinian prisoners and refusing to give them medication for any pre-existing issue such as diabetes. Several cases of people being arrested and dead a few days after their arrest have been confirmed. The prison wardens have yet to issue a response, however released or rescued prisoners have testified for these crimes. This is happening because of the invasion of Palestine by Israel. Torture is a fear inducing tactic, meant to deter Palestinian forces from fighting. Or to deter Palestinian civilians from enlisting all together.

This is important because Israel is violating human rights and could have consequences from the UN. However America is actually funding Israel, this leading to questions about why America would be funding the mass beating and killing of the Palestinian people. Should America pull out support for Israel it would likely make Israel weaker and less able to hold mass amounts of prisoners. However, should America pull out support, they wouldn’t be able to feed the prisoners, which could lead to even more human rights violations. One major question is if these acts even serve a purpose, what does Israel get out of putting themselves at the end of a huge human rights case?

In International Relations class, we have talked about how global power is distributed and how countries can be held liable for what they do. We said there is no ‘international court’ to punish countries, instead countries punishments come in the form of the actions from other countries. In this case it would be assumed other countries may sanction or otherwise intervene due to the human rights violations. Israel actually is being funded by other countries, in light of these crimes, some countries may pull support from Israel or threaten to pull support if the issue is not fixed. It could happen that some larger more powerful country intervenes and demands a cease-fire from Israel.
