The United States has stationed an Ohio-class submarine with nuclear missile capabilities in a show of force against the palestinians and israelis. The news comes from a post on the app X, formerly known as twitter. The Central Command unit, which is under the DoD posts a picture of the submarine breaking the surface of water in what appears to be the suez canal and the caption reads, “On November 5, 2023, an Ohio-class submarine arrived on the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.” Since the war broke out a month ago, the United States has deployed a significant amount of troops, with numbers up to 1,000 as well as 2 aircraft carriers and an extensive number of fighter jets. The job of the soldiers that were deployed to the region is to “advise” the israeli military. The United States has also made an effort to protect the rest of its allies in the middle east, including missile defense systems being sent to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, and the UAE.
I find it peculiar that the United States is finding israel as more of a priority than the war in Russia and Ukraine. I would think that all these troops and equipment could be better used against our world power rival rather than some religious dispute between israel and palestine. I also think that once again the United States is getting involved with a war that it has no business taking part in. We can aid israel but there’s no reason to put american lives at risk. I think the United States is doing this because the middle east is rich with resources, especially Saudi Arabia, and by allowing an all out war in the middle east it will hurt trading and both economies, but then again so will sending billions of dollars worth of equipment to Ukraine and the middle east when the United States is already in debt.
In class we often talk about how things around the globe affect countries that have nothing to do with the conflict. For example, this war between israel and palestine can mean all out war in the middle east, and with Saudi Arabia being the oil giant that it is many economies could be destroyed depending on how this all plays out.
