On December 4th, Hamas called out for recruitment in Lebanon. Lebanon’s political parties and officials did not appreciate Hamas’ action in their country. They believed it was violating their national sovereignty. Although, it will likely benefit the interests of Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and militant group. Currently Hezbollah is trying to enlist people to fight against Israel which is a big part of what Hamas is doing at the moment as well.
In 2013, Hamas and Hezbollah didn’t have a very good relationship. They were constantly fighting each other. Now, they are joining together solely to destroy Israel. There is a “joint security room” that was just discovered for the “Axis of Resistance”. Due to their strong relationship, Hamas definitely talked to Hezbollah before trying to recruit in Lebanon. If not, we would’ve seen more backlash from Hezbollah.
In class, we discussed cooperation. Cooperation is working together with other countries or groups with hopes of achieving your ultimate goal. In this case Hamas from Palestine and Hezbollah from Lebanon are two groups that are cooperating in hopes of defeating Israel.
