Israel assassinates Hamas leader in Lebanon

Early today a large explosion was heard in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, destroying several cars and reportedly killing Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri. Arouri, one of the founding members of the Hamas movement, has now since October been battling Israel for control over Palestinian territories. The reason for his arrival and death in Lebanon was because the Lebanon-based group called Hezbollah which is a similar group to Hamas. Israel has also vowed to hunt down and attack Hamas leaders even if they are outside of their own country, leading to possible civilian casualties and destruction of property as well as a breach of sovereignty against other countries.

Thiss article is important because it threatens to either stabilize or destabilize theregion’ss already ongoing war. If a more radical and authoritarian group or person takes over Hamas, then we could see a more aggressive and destructive war led by this new person. But on the other han,d we could see themoralel and aggression of Hamas leaders and soldiers plummet due to their fear of being attacked by Israel wherever they go. I also think that Israel’s aggressive take on this war will lead them to either be overthrown or ridiculed even more by its people, causing the faith of the people to waiver and having some badlong-termm effects on its population.

The Middle East is important to the U.S and the world because of its potential resources as well as where it’s situated in the world. If Israel falls and an ally to Iran rises we could see a potential trade disruption near the Suez as well as an increased Iranian aggressiveness towards other Middle Eastern countries. Iran could take over the Hamas group and use it to fight other countries like the Houthis in Yemen. It will be essential to watch this develop in the Middle East as it could lead to long-term conflicts and divides within the region.
