Following the aftermath of the drone attack that killed 3 U.S troops in Jordan on January 28th, 2024 the President of the United States has approved of a multi-day strike attack on multiple Iraq and Syrian targets that may include Iranian personnel facilities. The strikes are in response to the multiple drone strikes and rockets being launched against U.S forces.
My take on this article is that because of Iran’s increase in aggressive actions against the U.S I see little to no possibility of the U.S backing down to Iran. Because of Iran’s pride in themselves and their country a war or smaller conflict with the U.S will lead to many Iranian deaths as they are severely outclassed when compared to the U.S military. As we continue toward a unipolar world where the U.S is losing its ability to control others around the world, countries like Iran, Russia, and even China will look to exploit the troubles the U.S is having internally and externally. So I believe that the response the U.S takes to Iran’s aggressiveness will determine if we as a country are going to continue trying to be the world police, or if we are deciding to instead fix ourselves so that we don’t crumble like every other major power the world has seen.
This article connects to class because the U.S’s international security is at risk with Iran’s drone and missile strikes currently being sent against U.S troops. The conflict so far is not armed but as we slowly move towards an armed conflict we see tensions rise and people become more careful of who they deal with. I also believe that the U.S will attack Iran on the terms of a preemptive strike that protects both its people, the people of the middle east, and the people of the world, the war will probably become a quick conventional war that has the U.S aim to take out the Iranian government and plant it with a democratic ally. Because of this Russia is obliged to help Iran attempt to ward off the U.S as its one of their only allies left in the world, and if they ended up helping Iran the war between two countries could turn into a total war between two factions.
