The United States has decided to give Egypt $1.3 billion in military assistance. In the past, The U.S. has not given Egypt all of the money in order to use some as leverage to get Egypt to treat its citizens better. Those precautions were waived because of how key Egypt has been in negotiating a cease-fire with Israel and Palestine to end the war. The U.S. Secretary of State claimed that Egypt would be getting its full amount of money because of improvements made, but humanitarian organizations disagree. They say that human cruelty within the country is still widespread.
This article is very interesting to me because of how many other countries get involved because of one country’s war. This article is important because it hints that America could be ignoring human rights violations by Egypt and just giving them more money, which goes against the precedent America has set with countries. There’s two potential truths to this article: either the humanitarian groups are wrong and Egypt is treating its citizens better, or America just wants to believe whatever Egypt tells them even if it’s wrong because they are determined to get a cease-fire in Israel. Even if the latter is the truth, I understand and can see where the U.S. government is coming from. Yes, the conditions in Egypt are most likely horrible, but they keep killing each other in Israel and will not stop until a cease-fire is negotiated. Ignoring the violations of Egypt seems like a small price to pay in return for an end to this conflict that dates back centuries.
America and Egypt are allies and are both state actors, along with Israel. Israel’s war in Gaza is a global issue-we see this because America is giving Egypt more money to help negotiate a peace deal for the war. Israel, Egypt, and America are state actors. Palestine is a nation. Egypt is a nation state, Israel is a multi-nation state, and America is a multi-nation state and a nation state. It is both because it has people from many different countries, but what makes Americans American is not where your heritage comes from; it is your civic beliefs. Palestine is a stateless nation and a non-recognized state.
