Israel recently got a new foreign minister and he reported that Israel and Hezbollah have made progress in stopping the war that is raging on between Lebanon and Israel. Missiles have been fired back and forth between the 2 countries and thousands of people have died. More than 3100 people have died during the missiles have been fired since October of last year and progress between the 2 countries have been slow but the United States has stepped in to help the efforts to stop the conflict between the countries. Hezbollah has said that they are willing to continue to fight the war for a long time if the negotiations between the nations fail.
The ongoing negotiations between the countries is important for the region as many people are dying and it’s in support of Hamas in the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and Palestine. This impacts the entire region as people are migrating away from Israel and Lebanon for safety, this disrupts the region and many impact the other nations as they may become a multi-nation state with the diversity of people that are fleeing the conflict. I think the conflict should be resolved though a diplomatic way but this would be very difficult as both nations are having difficulty agreeing to a solution.
Both Israel and Lebanon could get what they want in order to get a ceasefire, although one country getting the way they want it would be very unlikely and would be very rare for an outcome. Lebanon could be more aggressive in order to get it the way they would like and Israel could use its advanced military to force Hezbollah to get a ceasefire in Israel’s term. However those ways would be non diplomatic as they both use force in order to stop the conflict, a more diplomatic way would be suggested as it harms would resolve this conflict peacefully. This article connects to what we are currently learning in class as both Israel and Lebanon have an offensive realism view as they both seek to gain power and security. Both countries are seeking this because the region isn’t very stable and conflicts happen very often. Israel and Lebanon engage in conflicts a lot due to the nature of having an offensive realism view and they tend to engage in conflicts more often. They want to reach a hegemonic stability as they want dominance in the region in order to have stability and power in order to control the countries and that what both Hezbollah and Israel seek to gain.
