Over the past month there has been rocky with negotiations for cease-fire. Now there has been greater efforts to bring in the cease-fire and put an end to the past 14 months of fighting. These effort helpfully will lead to fighting ending, release of hostages from Gaza, and free Palestinian prisoners in Israel. This seems to be working after Trump won the US election and has called for the release for all hostages held in Gaza by the time he enter office. He also is quoted saying there would be “hell to pay” if the hostages are not released. There is no “solid, well formed” ceasefire proposal reports Naim. This deal would mean Israel would withdraw forces and Palestinians would be able to return home. Reconstruction could now be the focus.
This could be good for the international relations but only in the long run. I think there will be growing tension in the coming months. With the Trump administration coming in there will possibly be more tension with results that the public may not like. There will be lasting impacts within our history and the land. I think this deal needs to be made to stop the violence but if things get a too heated deals may be hard to create. The reconstruction of these countries will take much time and there will be imprints left in the land.
With the United States support Israel will probably be happy. They will have a higher chance of getting what they want out go the deal. Once the deals are made Gaza will be able to breathe which is good after the constant attacks that have been taken upon the country. Both countries could benefit from treaties being formed but getting both sides to agree is the hard part. Both sides are very bidder towards the other. The United States could be helpful within the treaty process but if they push too much towards one way peace might not become true. There is also still the debate of if the US should get involved.
In class there have been many discussions of power. All countries want power, it is what makes the world go around. Israel wants power but the US holds a lot of it. They do gain power from just being associated though. In class we also discuss how psychology can be roped into international relations. When looking at the Trump administration, we can see how they go into conflicts. We can make predicts about how these deals and this conflict are going to pan out.
