My personal opinion on the annexation of Gaza is controversial. The humanitarian concern in Gaza has decreased significantly ever since Israel has furthered operations in Gaza. Incorporating Gaza would just lead to more concerns such as displacement and illegal removal of civilians. Another problem is human rights. The Israeli occupied West Bank restricts Palestinian civilians from traveling their territories more than an Israeli citizen; additionally, according to the UN, the occupation of Gaza and the West Bank is illegal under international law. Some leading problems would be predominantly humanitarian issues and socioeconomic issues. Disparaged civilians of Gaza would be put in a bind, as jobs and development in the Gaza strip would be staggered due to the lack of resources within Gaza. This article is important because it gives a layout for the future of over two million people who live in Gaza. Population of Gaza down 6% This happened because of growing animosity between the Jewish and Arab population in Judea/Palestine and post-colonial tensions in the region.
The United States of America has funded the Israeli military for a while. A diplomatic move to suggest that Israel shouldn’t occupy Gaza is by cutting funding for their military and hold every representative of the Israeli military accountable for violating international law. Israel should cease all operations in Gaza until diplomatic negotiations between the Palestinian representative government and officials of Israel can agree on positive terms. Additionally, food supply and humanitarian aid to Gaza must be untouched and pipe lined straight to the Gazan people. Ensuring the survival for all people within Gaza is the first step to regional security and the prosperous future for both nations. A questionable outlier, Hamas has a tendency to break the peace and start armed conflict. The eradication of Hamas and Iranian influence in Gaza is a necessity to broker peace between the two nations.
In our class, we discussed the influence of certain sides within proxy-wars and regional security. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back 70 years since the foundation of the Jewish State of Israel. The Middle East has a wide assortment of armed conflicts, but the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the most well known as of today. In our class, we talked about which sides the Israeli government and the Iranian government takes. The countries of Saudi Arabia and Iran are currently in a Cold War that still continues to this day. Israel has gradually taken the side of Saudi Arabia as Iranian backed militias have stormed Israel, destabilizing the region further. American interests in Israel grow as it is the only semi-democratic state within the region. Although there are no further similar diplomatic interests for the United States, the United States continues to fund Israel in hopes of eventually surpassing Iranian influence in the Middle East.
