This article discusses the 2026 BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit occurring in New Delhi, India, this weekend (Sep. 11 and Sep. 12). BRICS also includes Iran, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. This year’s summit has a significant amount of global conflict to review. Mostly, the conflicts in the Middle East and economical advancements. India is certainly a rising geo-political power and is becoming an increasingly more notable country in the global arena with their support in ending the Ukraine and Russia conflict considering their involvement and cordiality with both Russia and Ukraine. Vladimir Putin is also attending the BRICS summit, and the incessant efforts for diplomacy are set to be a main topic. Iranian President Pezeshkian will also attend which is important considering the Israel-U.S Iran conflict is still an ongoing crisis.
The BRICS summit is undeniably hectic this year, and all I wish for is that agreements are able to be reached referring to diplomacy and allowing relief for the countries in full-on humanitarian crises. Unfortunately, I know the chances of that occurring are unlikely. However, New Delhi’s rising geopolitical power is intriguing to me, their ability to keep ties with Russia, Ukraine, Israel and Iran is fascinating to me, but I’m also sure that this will be a short-lived way of operating as it continues to grow worse in the Middle East, I assume New Delhi’s ability to stay cordial to all parties will diffuse.
The political stakeholders could successfully facilitate diplomacy in the Middle East, by stabilizing the Ukraine-Russia conflict, stabilizing the Iran-Israel conflict and stabilizing the border tension between India and China. It is unlikely that all of that occurs in the matter of two days, but the progression towards those goals is possible. They could also increase and navigate trade as well as develop economically. The newer countries being introduced to BRICS also implies new dynamics in countries cooperating with each other, meaning more policies and conflicts may occur. However, the main focus from the political stakeholders does seem to be progressing resolutions in the Middle East through diplomacy. To connect this back to class, BRICS is an International Governmental Organization that was created to develop countries economically and combat the Western powers. This IGO has the ability to progress the resolutions in the Middle East conflicts in diplomacy which would successfully prove themselves as a strong force against the Western powers and stabilize trade as well as Multinational Corporations. As an IGO, BRICS has distinct economic policies and a goal of developing nations and implementing different financial establishments to avoid relying on U.S currency.
