Libya leaders lead a vote to reunite the country after Moammar Gadhafi’s death in 2011, since his death Libya has been in pretty much a lawless state. The meeting was mediated by the UN and held near Geneva in a non-disclosed location. They decided to rebuild state institutions, and prepare to hold an election in december. They also agreed that a constitutional referendum would be decided upon. Their plan is to have a single prime minister and a three person counsel.

24 people are running for counsel, 21 running for prime minister, with several standouts who will likely win. The US has negotiated ceasefire agreements with surrounding countries while they work on rebuilding their government.

This will definitely help rebuild Libya if this process is successful, and will make the region more peaceful by adding more order. This will help their economy as well as surrounding countries’ if the area becomes safer to live and travel in. I really hope that this is successful. I just finished a project/essay on the Haitian crisis, I really hope a repeat of those events doesn’t happen again here now in Libya and that these Democratic processes are here to stay.
