For the past few decades, India’s primary focus has been on economic restructuring, industrialization, and manufacturing. Little political strife has come out of India under Narendra’s rule as the population has been economically mobilized. The installation of a figure so controversial and polarizing to lead the country’s largest state, with a population larger than the entirety of Brazil, signifies that, possibly, Narendra has constituted an alternative campaign. It’s confusing, as he’s dedicated so much of his time trying to rebuild India, not divide it.

Yogi Adityanath has had an extensive history of being divisive. He’s spewed vehement rhetoric against India’s Muslim population, of which is the 2nd largest religion in India and makes up around 15% of the population. Recently he’s praised Trump’s travel ban against Muslims, and defamed Christianity. Essentially, this man who is so controversial has been given immense power over India’s most important region. Eight out of fourteen of India’s Prime Ministers have come out of Uttar Pradesh, which begs the question if Adityanath has a chance of earning the bid sometime in the future. Other stances of his regarding foreign affairs are unclear, but based on his domestic stance, theres some grounds for concern.
