Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps(IRGC) confirmed that on Saturday September 8th it was them who launched 7 medium range missiles at the Kurdistan Democratic Party(KDP) headquarters. This attack took place in Koya, in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region. The attack killed 11 people, leaving many people injured including the General Secretary and Predecessor of the KDP. Iran sees the KDP as a terrorist group. Not only did this attack further the tension between Iran and Kurdish rebels it also was used as an example for Guards Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari. On the next Thursday he claimed the missiles showed that they had an “unique ability to fight against arrogant foreign powers”. So this attack wasn’t just for the Iran’s government to try and weaken an enemy terrorist group, but to serve a greater purpose for themselves, that they won’t be bullied by other countries and now they have the missile arsenal to back it up.
