Taliban in Afghanistan

It seems like anytime news is heard out of Afghanistan, it is seems to always be about how another attack that has happened, a United States soldier has been killed, or terrorist organizations are still active in the area. The latest news is about how a hired bodyguard opened fire following a meeting at a Governor’s compound in southern afghanistan, he killed Kandahar police chief, Abdul Razeq, he was one of the most powerful security officials in Afghanistan. The Taliban claimed this attack, they also said they were targeting  United States General, Scott Miller. This was a major blow to Afghan government because of the upcoming parliamentary elections this weekend.

I find it interesting how The Taliban is still very active and how the government is not doing a whole to abolish the terrorist organisation. Also the United States is still very active in the area and only to keep troops on Russia’s doorstep. If The United States pulled troops from the area i wonder if Russia would step in to abolish The Taliban for good. In other news, Russia held a peace conference in Afghanistan. Members of The Taliban attended this conference, this majorly benefited The Taliban because they had a meeting with a member of the UN Security Council, this means that Russia is considering negotiations with the terrorist organisation.

From a realist perspective this does not work, Russia is looking for Russian interest and The Taliban is working for themselves also. The outcome would be just to fight until one side loses. From the liberalism perspective this is great, they are working together towards a common goal, but the Taliban goal is to take over the middle east, which The UN would never allow to happen.
