My first article was on the recent State of the Union address by Donald Trump where he declared his plan to take troops out of Afghanistan. The United States has been intervening in the Middle East for seventeen years now, America’s longest war. Trump argued the case that the United States troops have almost completely defeated all of the Islamic states in Syria. Trump said, “Great nations do not fight endless wars” as a way to persuade the American citizens to get on board and want to leave this everlasting war. In Trump’s efforts to take the troops home, he is expecting to have 14,000 troops to be leaving Afghanistan shortly in the next few months. With taking out the US troops, it could cause great unrest in the Middle East, yet Trump is ignoring that.
In my second article, “As good as gold for some brides in India as the election nears,” talked about how it’s a great time in India to get married if you are from a poor family. Because farmers and the population that is living in rural areas aren’t making enough money to sustain themselves, the federal government is offering cash handouts and tax cuts to these struggling people. Interest rates have also been cut for the first time since 2017. India is doing this so they can start to boost their economy. Another way they are boosting their economy is by giving brides $530 worth of gold. This effort is to help with the price of weddings, the gift giving that many cannot afford. The government is also offering electric bikes to women who score higher on their exams. This is an incentive to not only get educated but also help with transportation and help to empower women. Giving them electric bikes it would help them to rely less on their family members to help them get around.
