My article talks about events occuring in Yemen with a 4-year long war with the Houthis. The Yemeni government and the Houthi forces have agreed on a peace deal to end the ongoing attacks on the Hodeidah port. Because of this deal the Houthis have removed military forces from the port without much backfire. The United Nations have gotten involved in the conflict in Yemen. They have sent humanitarian aid and brought awareness to the subject. Other countries such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are pitching by giving the Yemeni government million of dollars to regain what has been lost in the war. Recently, the efforts to end the war have stalled. The Houthi group s supported by Iran, while the Yemeni government is supported by Saudi Arabia. This conflict really comes down to the long running conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia. This article is so relevant because of the documentary we are watching in class right now about the war with Iran and Saudi Arabia. The United States also got involved with that war which only escalated the violence and hatred they have towards each other. This is a very similar problem so nothing has changed between these two states since the 1970’s. I think that soon there will be an even bigger war with more countries involved because these countries are within an extremely important shatterbelt because it is rich with natural resources. The United States wants to be involved because they want to help their ally Saudi Arabia to maintain the trade of oil that America needs so desperately. The United Nations is clearly not strong enough to put an end to this conflict but I do not know if this rivalry will ever end because it is about difference of beliefs and morals, so neither country wants to compromise their faith and way of life to get along with the other state.
