The United States has engaged in talks with the Taliban in hopes of reaching a peace agreement. They were hoping in reaching an agreement this past weekend but nothing came about. Both the United States and the Taliban have said that they want to end the war. They plan to resume peace talks later this month. Although they both want to end the war, they have been unable to reach an agreement because of disagreement on a set of four main connected issues. Two of those being the time table for United States troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Taliban breaking off its ties to groups designated in Washington as terrorist organizations. Both sides have said that there last meeting was very meaningful and they are getting increasingly closer to an agreement but with just have to find a way to resolve the four major issues currently preventing against reaching an agreement.

I would have never thought that after twenty years of conflict with the Taliban we would still be involved with them and they would still be a prominent terrorist organization in Afghanistan. As an American, I am glad that the United States is engaging in peace talks with the Taliban. This is a war that I believe has gone on for far too long and could have been brought to an end a long time ago. While I want the United States to reach an agreement with the Taliban, I would hate to seem them compromise to the point of giving the Taliban exactly what they want; which is the United States military forces leaving soon and getting to keep their relationships with our terrorist organization groups. If I were the United States I would keep trying to push peace talks in hopes of either reaching a peace agreement or starting to get the Taliban to compromise on some of the major issues preventing against reaching a peace agreement.
