Recently Donald Trump branded the Islamic Republic’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “foreign terrorist organisation”. In response to this Iran’s Supreme National Council quickly responded branded the United States as a “state sponsor of terrorism”. Iran also stated that the US forces in operating and stationed in Iran are now considered terrorist groups to them and should be viewed as threat to their safety. This is causing tensions between the two groups which were already high, due to the US withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal about four years ago. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, for his part, criticised Trump’s decision as “another dangerous US misadventure” in the Middle East and a “misguided election-eve gift” to Benjamin Netanyahu the prime minister of Israel, Iran’s regional archenemy. Trump said he is going to keep the pressure and vowed to do so. He said it underscores Iran’s actions are fundamentally different from those of other governments and said that the financial pressure he’ll bring will continue until the Tehran state abandons it’s outlaw like ways. Recently Trump has placed sanctions on more than 970 Iranian individuals and entities, according to the US State Department.

This was a very concerning article to read. at first glance it almost seems to be rather petty exchanges between the two countries. The United States should be looking to cool tensions between themselves and Iran. Considering the Iran Nuclear Deal went south four years ago, they probably should’ve been striving to cool it from then until now. Instead they put their own US forces in potential danger because Iran has labeled them as a terrorist group. In thus situation, I think it would be best for the US to not apply anymore financial pressure to the Tehran state and instead ease off of them. Trump himself stated they have outlaw like ways and it would be bad to stir them up, as they might be likely to attack or hurt someone of importance.
