Taliban fighters have encircled a government compound in the Afghan providence of Baghis. There are roughly two thousand Taliban fighters currently circling the compound that has over six hundred Afghanis inside. Most of the Afghanis inside are Afghan military forces along with Afghan security forces. The Afghans inside are starting to run out of crucial supplies such as food, ammunition, and water. It is believed that if reinforcements are not sent in soon then the government compound will be overtaken. In recent weeks, the United States has been trying to negotiate with the Taliban. The United States is doing this in hopes of bringing stability to a country, Afghanistan, which has seen an increased Taliban presence and has seen increased violence throughout.

I think more needs to be done to prevent violence and civilian casualties in Afghanistan. I am a little confused as to why the Afghan government has not sent in reinforcement troops yet. In the article, it talked about how the Afghans inside needed immediate help if they did not want to be overthrown, so I do not know why the Afghan government is not doing more to stop the Taliban. The article also said that NATO has not done anything to stop the Taliban. I think someone needs to get involved because if they do not then the Taliban will take the lives of over six hundred innocent Afghans.

In other news, Iran has been experiencing a period of deadly flooding. These floods have hit twenty six of the thirty one provinces of Iran. The Irani government is currently struggling to provide resources and relief to its citizens. These floods have killed over seventy people.

I think this just shows the need for NGOs to get involved and help the Iranian citizens. Part of the reason that the Iranian government is struggling to provide resources is because of the poor state of the economy as a result of sanctions placed on Iran from the United States. I think an Ngo would be the best organization to help because at this time governments of other countries are reluctant to get involved.
