Simulation Reflection

  1. In this simulation, I acted as one of the main delegates representing Budan. There were four total members of our group, and I felt as if I was one of two main contributors throughout the entirety of the simulation.
  2. I felt reasonably prepared for this simulation, as much as anyone else probably was. The MUN experience in Hungary was a nice sample of how the proceedings go, even though this “conference” wasn’t nearly as strict or harshly moderated. The delegation of Budan didn’t accomplish what they wanted, but half of our delegation didn’t show up for the majority of the simulation. Overall, it seemed as if all of the other delegates were against us and our agenda in one way or another, but there isn’t much to be done about that. We were at a disadvantage from the outset, and it became more and more difficult as the conference progressed
  3. Not much, truth be told. I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as KARMUN, and I wouldn’t repeat this simulation again.
  4. The format was disorganized and chaotic, not at all similar to the MUN in Hungary. It felt as if most of the delegation involved opinions that were contrary to the information given to us for our individual groups. I struggled with this simulation because I spent most of it wishing that it were over, since there was no chance that our delegation would be capable of getting any sort of amendments passed that favored our agenda. Our biggest ally turned against us almost immediately, and from there on we were totally alone against the rest of the delegates.
  5. More strict moderation of the conference and better interpretation of the situation itself and the goals of each country. In general, I felt as if most people disregarded a large portion of the informational sheets we received when we were assigned our nation, and that was reflected in the generally chaotic nature of the simulation.
  6. The best laid plans of Mice and Men often go awry, whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and model UN is not my thing.
