Iran has a stockpile of 5,385 pounds of uranium which has increased from 4,641 pounds. That last number was last checked August 25. they are stockpiling more and more and they are way over the old deal made in 2015 where countries could only have a stockpile of 447 pounds. Iran is also raising the Unranime purity from 3.67 to 4.5. This makes the material more potent and more explosive. What triggered Iran to start stockpiling so much is when america pulled out of the deal in 2018. There is hope though to lower these numbers. Now that Biden is going to be president he is going to do a “freeze for freeze” that both stops Iran’s and the United states stockpiling and hopefully bring down these numbers.
I don’t really need to explain why having that much uranium is a bad thing. But for the sake of this blog and a getting good grade I will. That much Uranime can destroy the world and kill everyone on the planet. Period. End of story. we as a society should be looking at ways to never have to do what The United States did which was drop 2 atomic bombs on Japan during ww2. There is no goal so great that we have to resort to killing millions in one fell swoop. Every country around Iran is afraid now that if they have a disagreement Iran can press a button and a capital city is gone in the blink of an eye.
This relates to the collective goods problem. No one wants to be in fear of a nuclear winter or an nuclear attack. But it’s how we go about stopping this from happening that we will find is the most difficult to overcome. If one person has a gun others will feel unsafe until they themselves have a gun too. Now that everyone has a gun that feeling doesn’t go away, Now they just have a device that can cause a lot of damage. you can’t take back any mistakes you make with it. You will be stuck with the consequences till the end of your time. This is how I view Nuclear weapons.
