India is extending their Border Security Force (BSF) 50 km past the border in order to help with the drug and arms smuggling. They argue that they should be entitled to do this and this action should not be politicized at all. They need the people to realize that this move is not to put India in more threatening situations, but rather to keep them from those situations altogether. Doing this will help them act faster on those arms and drug smuggling and that this is a matter of internal security so why would it be politicized. The BSF will coordinate with the police also on whatever they act on.
This article is definitely important because India needs to deal with people and their smuggling problems around the border. This shows that they aren’t afraid to take action on it even if the people may think a threat is posed towards them through this action. They also back their choice up with reason which is important so that the people that disagree with the move understand where they are coming from. I think that this was a good move for the BSF and a good move for India in general so that they take more control.
This connects to our discussion in class through the fact that they need to provide reason and explanation for their move because there will always be people who don’t think that this is the way to go. There will never be a unanimous decision for the Border Security Force to go out there and expand their territory, as some people will always think the other way we’d be better off. However, with good explanations and such to back up the choice, people will come around and realize that maybe they were wrong, or, realize that they were right if it does go wrong.
