Union home minister Amit Shah is trying to send a message to the area around India. He wants them to know that doing things around the border such as incursions and smuggling is no longer being tolerated with a talking to or a plea, it will now be retaliated with an equal measure to the action. He states that the surgical strikes in 2016 that India did across the Line of Control helped send a message to the rest of the world that India was no longer some push over, but rather a force to be reckoned with. He goes on to say how the surgical strikes actually helped India restore the honor of its borders, and reinforce the sovereignty that had been overlooked recently.

This article is important because it shows how a country can get fed up with being looked down upon and respond with something unexpected. I think that India is right to speak out on this issue and needs to back themselves up as every country should if they feel their borders are being crossed too often. The minister is good to tell people to back off however, if he proceeds to say there will be consequences this could lead to controversy with the surrounding countries if he does indeed back up his word on the issue.

This relates to our discussions in class through the fact that some countries get too comfortable around another. It also relates to what we talk about when we are on the topic of countries threatening one another. Countries threaten one another frequently, however, following through on those threats is an entirely different story. For example, nuclear warfare has been a threat for some time now, but the countries realize the lasting impacts of this would be too much to back up the reasoning for the nuclear war itself.
