Nafatali Bennett, the prime minister of Israel stated that Iran was looking to re-enter talks to gain sanction relief in order to resume its nuclear program for nearly nothing in return. Bennett says that Iran should not be rewarded for such a “murderous regime” while refering to it as nuclear blackmail when trying to convince their allies not to fall for it. The Israeli said that Tehran (the capital of Iran) was trying to enter negotiations in Vienna, trying to end sanctions while not offering anything. Bennett had his top diplomat Yair Lapid in Europe on November 29th to talk to French and British allies about reviving the 2015 nuclear deal. This deal was to try and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons by having stricter limits in place. Donald Trump pulled the US out of the deal in 2018. The Biden administration is now looking back into a deal with the same countries involved in the original deal back in 2015.

I feel this is an attempt for Israel to try not get wiped off the map. Iran has said that if they gain Nuclear weapons the first country they will go after is Israel which will wipe them off the map. The US and Israel are big allies so when the Trump Administration was in charge they made it clear that they would not let Iran get their hands on the weapons. Israel knows that these other countries hold the key to if Iran will get these weapons so they are doing everything that they can to make sure it doesn’t happen.

This relates back to the collective goods problem. Nuclear weapons is something that everyone internationally has an interest in. This is a problem that in order to get a solution, countries will have to agree. Israel and Iran are proving that an agreement like that more than likely won’t happen because it would be hard to find a mutual benefit, countries disagree on what is best for their citizens, and one country won’t be able to control all of the countries making nuclear weapons. Iran wants to be part of the negotiation going on, but Israel feels that the offers that Iran has made are not mutually beneficial because Iran gains from ending sanctions while offering virtually nothing in return.
