President Biden will be holding talks with Qatar’s Emir on monday which will be aimed on energy security post the potential invasion on Ukraine by Russia. The talks are with Qatar due to the emirate being the largest supplier of liquified natural gas, the emirate stated that it may move supplies to Europe if the Russian invasion intrudes on gas deliveries to Europe. The main objective for the talk which will take place in the Oval Office, will be to talk about the ongoing Iranian nuclear deal and relations between Afghanistan. The Emir also met with the secretary of Homeland Security to talk about sales of arms and other defence/military issues along with the Defense Secretary.
I believe that these talks will be beneficial, especially if Russia does invade. It will be better to be prepared for the worst especially when it comes to gas flow into Europe. Also it is very important to talk try any one way possible to close the Iran nuclear deal. It’s been ongoing for close to a decade now and the United States has already left it once, it would be better to close the deal then to leave it or have it fail again. Also it will be good to have better relations with Afghanistan in the long run. As well has if Europe’s gas flow is blocked by Russian invasion it seems plausible that many economies could suffer.
These talks relate to the class because it is in the United States national interest to close the Iran nuclear deal, maintain relations with Afghanistan, and making sure gas gets to Europe. Though the last one does not seem like it would effect the United States alot it would. If the gas goes down in Europe it is possible that the global economy would suffer which inturn would effect the United States. The talk also showshopefullly good relations in the future between the United States and other countries in the region, which has always been a little rocky. Also with the headquarter of the US central command in Qatar it would be essential to maintain a good relationship with Qatar, not only because of their high stance in the global gas industry.
