With the surge that is currently happening between Ukraine and Russia the prices of hundreds of products have reached an all time high. One of these products in question is wheat. Europe has seen an all time low supply of wheat since the past decade and prices have risen to an all time high. But, on the other hand, India has had an all time best year of wheat production over the past decade. India has decided to sell their excess wheat to the rest of the world and just signed a contract to sell 500,000 tonnes of wheat in a couple of days. Europe is selling a ton of wheat for 400$ but India sweeps this price with a low price of 257$ per ton.
India doing this will help feed hundreds of thousands of people across the world and is truly very generous. They could have upped the price of wheat in order to make insane profit but instead, decided to do the opposite. India doing this will most likely mean better relationships with European countries and be extremely beneficial to everyone involved. Also, India having this much wheat could have possibly been due to the fact that they recently said that they will attempt to focus a lot more on agriculture in the next few years in order to feed their massive population.
This relates to class because it shows the relationship between countries. In a dire time for the Europeans the Indians decided to trade to them in order to help them feed their families. This could pertain to them doing it for an ally, but it is also a part of their national interest to sell their excess wheat and make profit. This seems to relate to complex interdependence which is a liberal sided theory. This is seen with India aiding the other countries for mutual benefit.
