Summary:Indian Navy saved a commercial ship from pirates off Somalia’s coast, Many say this displayed a great improvement of Naval forces of Delhi’s military making is possibly on par with the world’s best. This invasion happened on the MV Ruen vessel. The anti-piracy operation lasted two days, with no casualties. The Navy was able to incarcerate dozens of pirates in this operation. The success of this operation was landmark for the Indian Naval force, some even saying “The success of the operation marks the Indian Navy as a top-class force in terms of training, command and control and other capabilities.”
Analysis: This Operation is huge for India and shows home much they have improved their forces on the battle ground and their ability to enforce it. This improvement of the military would be great for India and can show other and allied countries the strength the country has gained over time. This operation will also help to ward off piracy in the region, at least with ships that work with Indian forces. So not only does this act as a show of strength for the country, it also helps to protect the country from further invasions and controversies. The ability to show off your strengths protects countries from further invasions due to fear.
Connection to class: The ability to show off strengths in order to instill fear into the surrounding of competing countries has been a tactic used thousands of times in history and does a great job at showing a countries dominance. this happens purposely like with missile testing, and situational like in the piracy situation happening here. While this might not assert world wide dominance, it definitely will have regional assertions as piracy invasions like these rage through the region and are very tricky to approach as strategically as India did. As we see in class assertions like these can do a great job at protecting countries and inserting them into powerful positions.
