The US president Donald Trump has put many tariffs on China, now adding up to 104% tariffs, leading to a trade war between the two countries. In response to this, China and India have begun to work together for a China-India economic and trade relationship, which would be mutually beneficial for the two. The Delhi spokesperson for the embassy stated that the largest developing countries (in the area) should stand together against what is said to be depriving countries of development. Aside from Chinas tariffs, Trump announced that the tariffs on India were discounted and will not retaliate by imposing tariffs of their own. The relationship between China and India has been very tumultuous in the past, but now are stating that supporting each other are in their best interest. They said they want to take the lead in opposing hegemonism and power politics and support each other, which is pretty surprising coming from these two countries regarding their past.

This agreement between these two particular countries is very interesting and definitely shifts the tide of many things. Their newly shared cooperation of each other is significant at this time because of the US tariffs being made between China and themselves. Their past seems to have been put behind them at this time, because their interests are more important than what has happened between them before. They want to weaken the control of the US because they want it themselves, so I believe that if the US ever loses world power, India and China would go right back to fighting each other. I feel like this kind of shows that the US has a lot of influence on the whole world because they made two pretty much rivals come together.

India and China have made this agreement in response to the US presidents tariffs on primarily China. I think these two countries will do almost anything for power, so the tariffs threatened them very much. They both are also powerful countries, so they will continue trying to limit or counter what the US does, or any other country for that matter who displays an intense amount of power. The US and president Donald Trump don’t seem to want to back down on the many tariffs that are being imposed on other rival countries. He will continue to do anything in his power for the benefits of his country. Other states or groups might be looking at the decisions being made and be in a state of confusion because of how intense they are.

This kind of shows the balance of power theory because the India and China relationship is in response to what the US is doing and their economic power. Their relationship is very multifaceted and requires a range of actors beyond state and regional levels. The tariffs that the US are imposing could disrupt world trade and interdependence, so India and China could uphold the principles of liberalism together by creating a deeper trade relationship.
