On October 19, 2025, China successfully launched the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-2) into orbit, alongside two of its own satellites, AIRSAT 03 and AIRSAT 04, using the Lijian-1 Y8 carrier rocket from a commercial aerospace innovation pilot zone in northwest China. This marks the third satellite launch facilitated by China for Pakistan in 2025, following PRSS-1 in July and PRSC-EO1 in January. Remote sensing satellites like PRSS-2 are equipped with specialized sensors and cameras that observe and measure the physical characteristics of the Earth from space. They collect data on various environmental and geographic factors, aiding in monitoring large-scale changes over time. This mission underscores the deepening space collaboration between China and Pakistan, highlighting China’s role in expanding Pakistan’s space capabilities.

In my opinion, this article is important because it displays the advancements in technological and political cooperation through space development between China and Pakistan. The launch of Pakistan’s PRSS-2 satellite by China shows how they are extending their influence in South Asia through scientific collaboration and not just economics or defense. It also reflects Pakistan’s efforts to develop and gain greater control over environmental and security monitoring. Historically, China has used similar partnerships to strengthen its regional alliances and counter Western dominance in space technology. This event could reshape the region’s balance of power and signal a new era of strategic data-driven cooperation between both nations.

China should continue to strengthen its space collaboration with Pakistan and use this partnership to show their leadership in technological advancements. By sharing data and training, China can improve its diplomatic influence while still advertising for stability in the region. Pakistan should use this opportunity to expand its scientific research, improve environmental monitoring, and advance national security capabilities. Pakistan should also invest in developing its own satellite engineers and infrastructure for long term independence. Outside regional stakeholders, such as India and the United States, should stay on the outside, observing, and balancing their concerns about influence while still encouraging transparency and a peaceful scientific cooperation.

This article connects to International relations through alliances, bandwagon states, and reciprocity. The satellite launch is part of an alliance between China and Pakistan. In this alliance Pakistan is a bandwagon state to China as they get economic benefits and technological advancements. Lastly it connects to reciprocity because both countries benefit from the event creating a win-win situation. China benefits as it expands its influence and gains a loyal regional partnership and Pakistan benefits as they gain technological advancements and access to space capabilities.
