The Rohingya are being forced back to Myanmar, the country that brought them pain and suffering. It’s despicable. The Myanmar government is literally the only group/ people that support this. They want to continue to rape, torture, and destroy these people’s lives and they’re going to be able to. The Rohingya Muslims are currently holed up in refugee camps in Bangladesh. They really can’t leave and are pretty much contained to their huts. The United States is trying to fight the Myanmar government, but they did not get involved early enough. If the refugees are forced back into Myanmar the “ethnic cleansing” will only continue. The situation is close to being classified unfically as a genocide. It’s not even just about the persecution of a whole population, but the fact that the Rohingya have no say in where they go or what happens to them. Refugees fleeing persecution is no new thing but it seems to be becoming more and more common. As a world power, and perhaps the largest world power, the U.S. needs to take a stand. How can anyone just stand by and let this happen. It’s a great thing to provide resources like food and water for refugees but we also need to be making sure they don’t end up back in deadly situations. The Rohingya might not be part of our population but we are all part of the world’s population and for me that is a good enough reason to stick together. Even the smallest things happening on the other side of the world affect us and this is certainly no small situation. This isn’t just an unfair tax or a plot to overthrow the government but the actual fight to save people’s livelihoods. It’s disgusting that a government lets this happen to their own people so the United States needs to be the government these people are looking for.
