After 20 years of what seems like endless conflict, Joe Biden has decided to formally withdraw troops from Afghanistan. This will leave Afghanistan to fend off Taliban alone as NATO countries planned their own withdrawal as well. Bordering countries are fearing for a potential takeover and loss of power in the region as the Taliban gains more control. Biden seems like he is taking the approach of withdrawing hegemonic power from the region (It reminds me of what we read of one of the quizzes we took). This does not seem like the right decision as bordering countries like Iran and Pakistan have their own problems to deal with. I sadly have to agree with Hillary Clinton because she makes good points like the fact that we left after 20 years without making any kind of peace deal and are leaving Afghans that we have worked with to deal with their own problems. It honestly disturbs me that the US and Nato are leaving without a peace deal, because I do not know why anyone is leaving because I thought the UN made a mandate after 9/11 to stop terrorist groups from rising up, but I guess they are just ignoring that now. If local powers are unable to stop this potential crisis, we will be heading back there in 2024 under a new president.
