Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan announced for the first time in the beginning of November, that they are providing Afghanistan with more than 28 million dollars worth of medical, food and other humanitarian assistance. Kahn ordered an immediate shipment of roughly 5 billion pakistani rupees, which is equivalent to about 28.4 million dollars, of in-kind humanitarian services be sent over to Afghanistan. The Pakistani government is also planning to reduce tariffs and sales taxes on some Afghani exports. It is also planned to help return Afghans who got stranded in India when seeking medical attention during the Taliban takeover back to their homes.

I personally think that this is kind of interesting. Pakistan and Afghanistan are known to have a tense relationship with one another so I think that it is kind of strange to now see Pakistan helping out the Afghans.  This appears to be an attempt to reconcile or gain favor with the ruling Taliban in Afghanistan.  This is a good thing in my opinion for stability in and otherwise very unstable region in the world.  Pakistan permitting India to transport wheat through Pakistan is also a very good sign for more stability in the region.  India and Pakistan also have a historic tumultuous relationship.

This relates back to the Collective goods problem and the solutions to it. Everything that is going on in Afghanistan right now affects Pakistan because of the shared border even though they are not directly involved. Pakistan is showing the use of one of the three solutions to the collective goods problem. Pakistan is showing the use of Identity, which is when countries care more about the people in the community than their own interests, so they sacrifice their interests to benefit others. They are showing this because they are showing that they care more about helping the Afghans with 28 million dollars worth of humanitarian aid, which in the long run will more than likely help their people as well.
