Summary: This article talks about how a Japanese foundation will spend 2 million dollars to move thousands of Rohingya refugees to a remote island in Bangladesh. Here they will teach the refugees skills that will help them improve their way of life. The government has been praised for the support they provided and it has been claimed that this is the step needed to sending them back to myanmar. These refugees fled to bangladesh after their home country has had a harsh militant crackdown that was follwed with rapes, killings and the torching of thousands of homes. This was classified as ethnic cleansing by the UN.

Analysis: this event has been extremely catastrophic to the region but shows how when larger and more powerful countries like japan get involved they are able to improve conditions. For Japan, coming in and improving the conditions of these refugees and taking the responsibility away from bangladesh gives them the ability to have bangladesh be in good terms with them this will be most likely used later on by Japan as something they provided bangladesh with putting bangladesh in dept to them. This issue also has a lot to do with human rights and shows how Japan is against the act of ethnic cleansing and will put both Bangladesh and Japan in a positive light.

Connection to Class: Human rights have been specifically what we have learned currently in class. Human rights is a huge part of this issue and shows how the breaking of them has a long lasting effect as this has been happening since 2017. Japan getting involved in this shows how human rights violations affect regions as a whole and are negatively viewed by almost all countries. This issues also shows how ethnic cleansings like these affect neighboring countries  as the refugees have been crowding bangladesh for years.
