My thoughts on the Boko Haram kidnappings (Analysis)

Boko Haram, a terrorist group that has been a constant threat and fear to northern Nigerians, has recently released a horrific video where they killed an aide worker and threatened a schoolgirl that they had abducted. This caused the CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria), to demand for the immediate release of this school girl. However this school girl is not the only one that’s been abducted by Boko Haram. Since 2014, an estimated number of over 100 girls are still being held as hostages.

The CAN has since called out out the Nigerian government saying that they must help ensure that these girls will be released safely and promptly. They also said that Nigerians should join CAN in their campaign to help prevent future social vices, such as ethnic violence, human trafficking, and bloodshed, and help create a more peaceful and safe culture for the upcoming generation to live in.

The horrific thing about this terrorist group is that they do not show mercy to anyone. They are kidnapping young girls for no reason other than human trafficking, as if their lives mean nothing to them, even if they are apart of the same country as them. They also have recently posted another video where they killed a member of the International Red Cross. The sickening part of this is that the International Red Cross is there to help all sides of any war, no matter political affiliation or side in a war. The media assistant to CAN believes that this video also shows a threat to the young girl that was filmed in the previous killing, and fears that if not acted on soon it might be too late for her and the rest of the abducted girls. While yes the Nigerian government has worked on deals to secure the safety of some of the abducted girls, there is still an estimated 112 girls out of the original 200 that are still held in captivity.

The question is what will be enough for the Nigerian government to realize that this terrorist group is not playing around? Already 5 girls have been killed, and who knows how many more will need to die before the Nigerian government will actually help secure the safety of these girls and work on kicking out this terrorist group, instead of just taking the slow diplomat approach, while mostly just watching and waiting without doing anything.
